Neoangin records an album with the Russian entertainer Psoy Korolenko. Neoangin has nothing but Psoy’s vocal track and a click track to work with; he starts concocting news songs without really having a clue about the meaning of Psoy’s lyrics.
Touring Portugal with Nova Huta. The opening show at the chichi LUX in Lissabon turns into a fiasko. The borrowed cd player stops working after only a few minutes and in order to
win some time Nova starts mocking the club owners for their strict door policy. These however have little compassion, and the two artists can barely save themselves from being thrown out by the bouncers. The remainder of the tour is much more quiet, a fact which they attribute to the lethargic Portugese audience.
After Portugal Neoangin goes straight to Russia for the release party of Gonki, the album by Neoangin and Psoy Korolenko. Moscow is still covered in snow and the atmosphere itself is just as frosty. The musicians meet only moments before the show and are already quite drunk at that point. The audience has a mixed reaction to the co-production. More than one and a half years will pass until Psoy’s and Neoangin’s paths would cross again.
Touring Switzerland with Nova Huta. Coinciding with the Europe Cup their Swiss tour turns into a challenge for the two one-man bands. Nova prefers to watch football the entire time and lets Neo have the stage, and Nova also tries to steal away as often as possible. Neoangin’s revenge is unleashed at the last gig, which is taking place in St. Gallen. By playing an amazing three hours he wants to prevent Nova from taking a hike just to travel back home. This puts their friendship on ice. Nonetheless, they make up after two weeks.
Once again Neoangin travels to Russia, this time to record a single with 2 AEROPLANES from St. Petersburg. The plan is to record ska-versions of some Neoangin songs. However, these plans are intercepted by differing opinions among the musicians, torrential rainstorms, an inaccessible apartment and a floater in the river. The recordings are never completed. Neoangin and the guys from Bad Taste return to Moscow to host the electronic music festival ORGANIZM. Guests are MASHA QRELLA, FELIX KUBIN and NOVA HUTA.
They all do a second show together at the infamous black cd market Gorbuschka. The gig becomes legendary and even the security guards have tears in their eyes.
Neoangin does a performance at radio Zündfunk’s 25th anniversary. The location of the show unfortunately also houses the royal Bavarian China collection, and so the show must go on sans bass. Not only that, one of the speakers falls on the head of an innocent concert goer. The show ends here, the woman survives but not without a big headache.
Neoangin records UNHAPPY HOUSE. Drummer Chris attends almost the entire recording sessions in the studio. The new album discusses the changes that Berlin has undergone and announces Neoangin’s farewell. The theme TRAVEL is the album’s leitmotif.
The release of UNHAPPY HOUSE is accompanied by concerts in Madrid, Stockholm, Paris and Moscow, as well as a Germany tour with Nova Huta. Neo and Nova are no longer newcomers, but rather old insider’s tips. Doing a cool show to a playback is nothing new and revolutionary but yesterday’s news. Guitar bands are the hot shit these days and the two one-man bands realize that they have to mix up their concept. The tour has its interesting ups and downs. Some shows are nearly sold out but the gigs in the big media cities show them where the wind is blowing. A drunk woman with the name Mischou enters the stage in Munich and steals the show of both bands. Neo and Nova decide to write a musical to mix up the theater scene.
